The Underwater Menace

he TARDIS materialises on what appears to be an extinct volcano. The Doctor and his crew are captured by a group of Atlanteans and taken below ground to the mythical city of Atlantis.

The Doctor, Polly, Ben and Jamie are almost sacrificed to the Goddess Ambo by being suspended over a pool of sharks. They are rescued by a deranged scientist Professor Zaroff. Zaroff has promised the Atlanteans that he can raise their world.

Zaroff's real intents are in fact to drain the ocean into the molten core of Earth, and the resulting steam would effectively split the planet in half.

The Doctor and his companions meet up with two shipwreck survivors, Sean and Jacko. Together they form a rebellion with the Fish People, and Zaroff is overthrown only by flooding the city. Only Zaroff fails to escape.
