Programme Description

The Master has stolen a file from the Time Lords, and in an attempt to retrieve it the Time Lords send the Doctor and Jo in the TARDIS to the planet Uxarieus in the year 2472.

During their time on the planet they become involved in a dispute between colonists and the Interplanetary Mining Corporation over the ownership rights of the planet. The Master arrives in the guise of the Adjudicator sent from Earth to take charge of the situation.

The Doctor learns that the natives worship a machine tended to by the Guardian. The machine is in fact the doomsday machine, responsible for recent crop failures, and the decline of the Guardian's race.

The Master plans to seize the doomsday machine, which is capable of destroying whole planets. The Doctor managed to persuade the Guardian to destroy the weapon rather than let it fall into the hands of the Master.

Bloopers and Mistakes

There's one scene where a bunch of the colonists are standing around, listening to a speech, and abruptly as you're watching, two of the colonists in the group suddenly switch places!

In the scene where Dent is interrogating Caldwell, just after he first brought the Doctor back to the IMC mining ship, watch the monitor screen on the bridge. In some shots it's in place, but in others (especially close-ups on Caldwell), the CSO is missing and there's just a bright blue light!

There's a scene where the Doctor and Jo sneak into the Master's TARDIS to have a look around. There is an alarm beam across the door at about knee level, so they have to wiggle under the beam on their backs. A couple of times they accidentally bump into the massive internal doors of the TARDIS and the doors wobble.

Notes and Trivia

All six episodes only survive as film prints and NTSC recordings.
