A bit like the Brigadier, Mickey rarely travelled in the TARDIS, but thought of himself as the Doctor and Rose's 'man in the van' - or 'tin dog'. Mickey was the boyfriend of Rose Tyler before the Doctor appeared on the scene accidentally creating a love triangle. Mickley tried to shy away from danegerous situations, and declined the Doctor's offer to join the TARDIS crew, but could be depended on in a crisis. After a talk with Sarah Jane Smith he decided to join the Doctor, and stayed behind in a parallel world when the parallel version of Mickey - Ricky Smith - was killed.
